The project is based on the environmental requirements contained in the new European Construction Products Regulation, which will need to be adapted nationally. The project will be implemented together with participants from the neighbouring Nordic countries, facilitating a common Nordic view. IVL and SGI will analyse how the results of standardised testing and assessment methods may be used to comply with the demands imposed on sustainable building.
“Although the new regulation is directed primarily towards new construction products, another aim will be to recycle as much material as possible since there will be a demand for the sustainable use of resources. For this reason, it will be important to ensure that the complete product life cycle is considered and that the materials are evaluated in a relevant manner. In this context, IVL will place a major emphasis on the development of tools for environmental assessment," says Martin Erlandsson, researcher and assistant director at IVL´s Climate & Sustainable building unit.
ERA-Net Eracobuild is a network of R&D programmes focusing on construction and sustainable built environments in 11 different European countries.
